Brendon Vandergast is an accomplished entertainment, intellectual property, and new media attorney with extensive experience representing artists, producers, songwriters, entertainment companies, digital media platforms, and emerging technology businesses across the music, media, and entertainment industries. He is a Partner at Altschul Olin & Vandergast, LLP, where his practice focuses on entertainment law, intellectual property, digital media, licensing, branding, corporate transactions, and strategic business affairs involving both established and emerging entertainment and technology companies.
Brendon provides legal and strategic counsel to recording artists, performing artists, songwriters, film and television composers, artist managers, music producers, entertainment personalities, and digital media companies. His work spans recording agreements, publishing arrangements, copyright and trademark matters, licensing transactions, corporate structuring, intellectual property protection, branding strategy, digital distribution, new media rights, and entertainment related commercial transactions.
Throughout his career, Brendon has represented a diverse range of internationally recognized artists, producers, and companies across the music, entertainment, technology, and digital media sectors. Representative clients have included Michael Franti, Grammy Award winning producer and songwriter Walter Afanasieff, legendary radio personality Rick Dees, The Bicycle Music Company, Red Frog Events, IMVU, PlayNetwork, MetroPCS, and SanDisk, among others.
Brendon’s practice has also included extensive work involving digital music platforms, online media companies, streaming related matters, intellectual property licensing, and evolving technology driven entertainment models. His experience spans both traditional entertainment industry structures and rapidly emerging digital distribution and interactive media ecosystems, giving him broad expertise across the increasingly convergent worlds of media, technology, branding, and entertainment.
Following law school, Brendon joined Altschul & Olin, LLP as an associate attorney, where he worked closely with highly respected entertainment attorneys David E. Altschul and Milton E. Olin, Jr. on sophisticated entertainment, music industry, and intellectual property matters. During this period, he assisted in representation involving major artists, entertainment companies, and media organizations including Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, A&M/Octone Records, Pandora Radio, LyricFind, and the Estate of Bing Crosby.
Prior to beginning his legal career, Brendon attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. While at UCLA, he also worked as a rock music journalist for the Daily Bruin, providing early industry exposure to artists, media, and the music business. He later earned his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School, where he concentrated his studies in entertainment and new media law through the Biederman Entertainment & Media Law Institute, one of the nation’s leading entertainment law programs.
Over the course of his career, Brendon has developed a reputation for advising clients at the intersection of entertainment, intellectual property, media, branding, and emerging technologies, with particular expertise in helping creative professionals, entertainment ventures, and technology driven media companies navigate the rapidly evolving modern entertainment landscape.
