Dr. David J. Maloney, PhD, is an accomplished technology executive, materials scientist, and commercialization strategist with extensive experience spanning advanced materials, semiconductors, specialty chemicals, clean technology, photovoltaics, industrial manufacturing, and emerging technology platforms. Throughout his career, Dr. Maloney has built a strong reputation for bridging advanced scientific research with practical commercial execution, helping organizations transform complex technologies into scalable, revenue generating products and market leading solutions.

Prior to his current work in emerging technologies and advanced materials, Dr. Maloney served as a Technology Director at Intermolecular, Inc. in San Jose, California, an advanced materials innovation company known for accelerating research and development for the semiconductor, electronics, clean energy, and data storage industries through high throughput experimentation, materials informatics, and advanced data driven materials discovery platforms. During his tenure, Dr. Maloney championed the company’s initiatives involving statistical modeling and advanced analytical methods applied to chemical formulations and materials optimization. He also led Intermolecular’s cheminformatics initiatives and was recognized internally as the company’s chemistry Subject Matter Expert while supporting one of its leading strategic materials accounts.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Maloney spent approximately 15 years with DuPont and EKC Technology, where he held a series of increasingly senior scientific, operational, and commercial leadership positions. DuPont is widely recognized as one of the world’s largest and most influential science and engineering companies, with a long history of innovation spanning advanced materials, specialty chemicals, electronics, industrial manufacturing, agriculture, and high performance technologies. During his tenure, Dr. Maloney advanced from United States R&D Director to Global R&D Director, overseeing international research and product development programs with annual budgets of approximately $6 million.

Under his leadership, multiple advanced chemistry platforms and formulated materials products were successfully commercialized for semiconductor manufacturing and advanced industrial applications. He also played a key role in restructuring intellectual property management and technology development processes, significantly improving operational efficiency while reducing technology and IP related expenditures by approximately 75%. In addition to his technical leadership responsibilities, Dr. Maloney later served as Global Marketing Manager, where he helped drive growth initiatives within emerging technology sectors including LED lighting, photovoltaic solar technologies, and hard disk drive manufacturing, all industries that experienced major global expansion during this period.

Dr. Maloney also led the development of advanced formulated chemistries used in semiconductor cleaning, wafer processing, and surface preparation applications, generating more than $20 million in cumulative revenue. His work has focused heavily on innovation strategy, product development, technology commercialization, intellectual property management, competitive positioning, and cross functional leadership across highly technical and rapidly evolving industries.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Maloney has authored more than 45 peer reviewed publications, patents, and trade articles involving chemistry, materials science, semiconductor technologies, and advanced industrial applications. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from McGill University, a PhD in Chemistry from Texas A&M University, and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business.
